Solid start for Team Betta at Mount Panorama
Team Betta Electrical's Bathurst campaign is off to a solid start with the car 888 entry of Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup recording the sixth fastest time during today's opening practice session.
While Lowndes completed the majority of the capped 30 laps, team mate Jamie Whincup also showed consistent pace lapping in the top ten during his opening stint.
Car 88 showed promising speed before an incident on the closing lap of the first session saw Dane Allan Simonsen glance the wall coming out of The Cutting resulting in the car being sidelined for the remaining practice session.
Relatively minor damage has allowed the team to have the car ready for tomorrow morning's practice session.
Craig Lowndes Quotes
"The car rolled out of the transporter reasonably well however we did work on setup over the course of the 30 laps," said Lowndes
"Whilst the car is responding to all of the changes we made we will still have a good look at data before we finalise our setup.
"There is definitely more time left in the car but we need to make sure we have a reliable race package for Sunday," said Lowndes.
Jamie Whincup Quotes
"I did five laps today and the car was a little bit slippery to start with," said Whincup. "But overall I am comfortable with the changes Craig made and I am confident we will have the best possible setup ready for Sunday's race.
"It is nice to be back at arguably the best drivers track in Australia."
Allan Simonsen Quotes
"The car pace was good but I kissed the wall coming into turn three and broke a watts link and steering arm which unfortunately shortened our session by 14 laps.
"Whilst we didn't get our full session in it was good to get the carnage out of they way early in the weekend.
Richard Lyons Quotes
"This is the first time I have ever driven on this track and it's reputation is certainly warranted," said Lyons
"The degree of incline has to be seen to be experienced and I can appreciate the technical skill needed to be competitive here.
"Already I would have to put it in my top three tracks in the world and I have only done five laps so far.
The drivers will contest a further two practice sessions on Friday ahead of a 45 minute qualifying session.
The spectacle of the Top 10 Shootout can be seen from 3.40pm on Saturday afternoon, and drivers will contest an early morning Sunday warmup from 7.10am before the green flag is waved at 10.00am.
The Super Cheap Auto Bathurst 1000 will take place over 161 laps of the 6.213km circuit.
