RICHARDS RISKS ALL TO WIN AT BATHURST
Three second-place finishes at the punishing Mount Panorama is a great achievement by anyone's standards, but Team BOC's Jason Richards will not be happy until he makes it one step higher.
Richards, who finished second in 2005 and for the past two years running, says he has no interest in doing it again this weekend and will "increase the risk level" to pursue his dream of winning the iconic Bathurst 1000.
The New Zealander says he has all the right tools at his disposal for this weekend's race and is coming off the back of a sensational drive at Phillip Island, which saw him come back from a lap down to finish third with co-driver Andy Jones.
Practice starts this Thursday at 10.15.
"I have no interest in finishing second this year. I'm turning up totally ready to win.
"The thing we have to our advantage is that I'm 10th in the championship; I'm not in the championship fight so I'm prepared to put it out there and increase the risk level to make it tough on the other guys. I'm going to be as aggressive as I need to to win the race.
"I feel I've got all the tools at my disposal to win; the car's very efficient, it's kind on its tyres, the teamwork is second to none in pit lane and the strategy has been exceptional all year so I'm confident we will be one of the cars in the mix.
"There's nothing more disappointing that being second at Bathurst. Whilst I was rapt for the team last year, for me it was like dejà vu; the third time coming so close. This year, I don't want to be disappointed on the podium, I want to be ecstatic and the only way I'm going to be ecstatic is by winning the race."

"The best I've done is a fourth so for me a podium result would be terrific. Having said that, I feel pretty fortunate to be driving with JR. Nothing against anyone else in the championship; it's just because he's so hungry to win it and that's the aim. I've never been in a position to do it before but I wholly believe it can be done this time. The way I saw his attitude at the end of last year, and the way he's talking now; he wants to win it so bad. I think this week is going to be a very wicked ride!
"I'll be having a red-hot go; I don't think anybody is just in it for the enduro ride. You're pressing from lap one of practice one; you leave the pit lane and people are racing you to Turn One and that's the mindset of the people you're racing against."
