SBR TO START 6TH FOR TOMORROWS 'GREAT RACE'

SBR will start the Bathurst 1000 from the third row after van Gisbergen posted the sixth fastest time in this afternoon's Top Ten Shootout. Van Gisbergen maintained his extraordinary pace over the top of mountain during his flying lap but it was the changing track conditions that worked to the advantage of the last to run after an earlier downpour of rain during the Fujistu race.

Holden's Garth Tander qualified on pole with Craig Lowndes joining him on the front row.

This morning's one hour practice session was interrupted when an accident involving car #23 of Walter/Douglas caused a red flag for eight minutes. The consistency of car #9 continued in this morning practice when van Gisbergen posted the second quickest time of the session.

The IRWIN/SP Tools Racing duo of John McIntyre and Daniel Gaunt were pleased with the changes that were made to car #4 overnight after issues with the roll bar in yesterdays qualifying. The kiwi pair are looking forward to making up for yesterdays disappointing setback and will start tomorrow's race 21st.

In the second and final Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series race, Daniel Gaunt claimed a podium finish with a fourth place in the 10 lap race. The race was called to restart after a sudden and heavy downpour of rain forcing all teams to change over to wet whether tyres.

Gaunt held third position for several laps but was unable to hold off a brave James Moffat when he made a move on the back straight with 3 laps to go.

Gaunt finished on 249 points for the weekend and second overall for the round.

Shane van Gisbergen - Driver, IRWIN/SP Tools Racing Car #9

"The conditions played a major part in the shootout today which was evident with each car going quicker and quicker as the track dried up. My first sector wasn't that good but I think my second sector was quite good for the time of how the track was.

"Third row of the grid is better than where I have ever started here before, we just need to run with the pack and be in there when we get to the final thirty laps tomorrow."

Alex Davison - Driver, IRWIN/SP Tools Racing Car #9

"I think Shane's lap was as good as it could have been with the track conditions. It's just a pity that we had rain before the shootout so the track had some wet spots at the start of the session and dried out towards the end.

"I think we had the pace to do better than where we ended up if the track was the same for everyone but 6th is nothing to sneeze at, it's still a really solid position to start from tomorrow."

John McIntyre - Driver, IRWIN/SP Tools Racing Car #4

"I'm feeling really confident going into tomorrow we have the car really close to where we want it so we have one final change to make until it will be as close to perfect as possible. Our plans today's in practice were ruined a bit by oil on the track due to another cars engine failure and the red flag so I decided to come in early to give Daniel and good run and it worked out well, he got eight laps in and the time he needed in the car."

(Fujistu Series Press Conference After Race 2)

"To think I was sixteenth on Thursday and now I have the second place trophy in my hands is amazing really. This is my first time to the mountain and I thought it was going to be a little easier than what it was but I have amazing respect for this place now.

"The Fujistu Series races have definitely been an advantage this weekend allowing me to get more track time. We have sort of had my focus and attention on the #50 (McElrea Racing) car while John [McIntyre] has been able to have more time in the #4 car. Now my attention changes over to the main race but it's been good for both John and I to have a balance of laps around this place.

"I am really looking forward to tomorrow, I have dreamt about being in this race since I was a kid!"

The IRWIN/SP Tools Racing Falcons will start the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at 10:30am following a 20-minute morning warm up session at 8:00am.
