RICCIARDELLO POSTS 28TH FASTEST TIME IN BATHURST QUALIFYING

Hi-Tec Oils Racing pairing Mark McNally and Tony Ricciardello will start the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 from 28th position after Ricciardello recorded a steady performance in qualifying at Mount Panorama today.

The all-West Aussie pairing has been gradually improving over the course of the weekend, highlighted by Ricciardello setting the 13th fastest time in practice this morning.

McNally continues to improve ahead of his Bathurst 1000 debut, handing over the #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore to Ricciardello for qualifying by virtue of his four previous Bathurst 1000 starts.

Jason Richards earned provisional pole in qualifying at Bathurst today ahead of tomorrow afternoon's Top 10 Shootout, topping the timesheets in his Commodore ahead of fellow Holden drivers Garth Tander and Lee Holdsworth.

HI-TEC OILS RACING QUOTEBOARD

Tony Ricciardello - #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore:

"It was great to qualify the car," said Ricciardello.

"It was my first time this year and I had fairly good pace and picked up time every time went out and dropped a few more tenths in qualifying.

"I'm pretty happy with the balance of the car and I just need to get some more laps on a full take of fuel and really set it up for the race.

"The track isn't too bad. I think the grip level probably isn't there, but I'm going faster than I have done before. More than anything it's great that I'm getting more laps and gaining more confidence."

Mark McNally - #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore:

"The car felt OK but I am still getting my head around a few things," said McNally.

"I've still got a way to go out there at the moment but it's really good to be in this team situation where Tony is on the money today.

"It's good for him to jump in and qualify the car. I think he did a really good job. He went a lot quicker than he has ever gone before here.

"We have a lot of confidence moving forward tomorrow. I will get a fait bit of time in the car tomorrow with most of the hour-long session to myself. Come Sunday we will both be on the pace."
