WA FANS IN FOR A TREAT BUT DESERVE MORE SAYS INGALL
Supercheap Auto Racing's Russell Ingall believes Western Australian fans are in for a treat when round four of the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship Series fires into action this weekend at Perth's Barbagallo Raceway.
With three different round winners in as many rounds so far in 2008 the tight confides of the 2.42km circuit should once again produce some closely fought action.
Ingall has finished on the podium three times throughout his career in Perth and following the speed he has shown aboard the #39 Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore during the recent rounds is aiming for the podium this weekend.
The Western Australian venue has come under criticism over the past few years with many people believing Australia's highest profile motor racing series has outgrown the facilities available at the Barbagallo Raceway, Ingall agrees with these thoughts.
"The circuit itself is one of the trickiest tracks we go to and produces some great close racing, however, to put it simply the sport has outgrown the facilities at the venue," said Ingall.
"It's not just about us, as drivers and teams, having the best facilities but also the Western Australian motorsport fans -- they love their V8s and we need to give them better facilities.
"The fans are the ones that allow us to do what we do and they deserve the best facilities. They need more space to move around and enjoy their racing."
After three rounds in the 14-round championship Rick Kelly leads the standings on 672 points ahead of Garth Tander (626) and Lee Holdsworth (580). Ingall is 18th on 303 points.
Ingall takes to the circuit for the first time tomorrow for practice followed by qualifying on Saturday morning. The opening 50-lap race will be contested on Saturday afternoon with a further two races to be held on Sunday.
