McConville beats Radisich after Long Perth VB 300 battle.
June 29 2002 - The first VB 300 V8 Supercar race at Barbagallo Raceway in Perth saw driver Cameron McConville finish 23rd after an exciting race long battle with Shell Helix Racing Falcon driver Paul Radisich.
While 23rd was not the result the team was aiming for from their 21st grid position, but after a bad start, McConville was trapped behind a very slow starting Steven Ellery (Falcon) and as a consequence of this was hit by Jason Bargwanna's Commodore into the first turn.
McConville recovered to make his compulsory stop on lap three to overtake Craig Baird (Commodore) shortly after his return to the race, to begin a race long battle with the highly defensive Radisich.
The LRT driver finished the 100km race between Ford drivers Glenn Seton and Radisich with Holden drivers Baird and Jason Richards behind.
Cameron McConville - "Although we finished 23rd, I always enjoy a race where we are attacking. I got off the line really well, but had no where to go and couldn't get across to the inside line and lost five spots as a result - it proved very frustrating because the car balance was very good during the race. With more improvements and a better start tomorrow, we could gain some quality results here in Perth."
As has been in the case in a number of V8 Supercar races this season, retirements were few and McConville's race laps were as fast as the drivers placed at the top of the timesheets.
The Lansvale Racing Team will be back on the track for the second 42 lap VB 300 race at 10:40am and for the third and final challenge at 1:00pm Perth time. (3:00pm EST).
