IRWIN RACING TEAM FIND DIRECTION LATE IN WA V8 PRACTICE

The final 10 minutes of practice have proved beneficial to the IRWIN Racing team of Alex Davison, after he struggled throughout the opening two sessions at Barbagallo Raceway outside Perth.

On a track that is renowned for having low grip, the IRWIN Racing crew could not find the optimum balance in the Ford Falcon V8 Supercar.

Led by race engineer Wes McDougall, the team made a whole range of changes before finding a better balance right at the end of the combined 135 minutes of practice. Davison finished 20th on the time sheets, but more importantly he believes with further refinements he can further improve his position in tomorrow's qualifying sessions ahead of the opening 100km race.

WHAT ALEX DAVISON HAD TO SAY:

"We started off behind the eight-ball and we were really struggling in the first two sessions. On a positive note we did make progress right at the end and certainly found a direction which we hope can be further improved upon heading into qualifying tomorrow. We will need to improve the balance in the IRWIN Ford to get better grip on what is a very slippery track."

WHAT IRWIN RACING ENGINEER WES McDOUGALL HAD TO SAY:

"In terms of set-up, we really struggled to get the most out of the IRWIN Falcon until right at the end of the final practice session. We changed quite a lot of things to improve grip and the balance in the car. It was pleasing to get things headed in the right direction at the end as we can now apply some further refinements overnight."
