INGALL FINISHES ON THE PODIUM IN BAHRAIN
Supercheap Auto Racing's Russell Ingall showed tremendous pace to finish on the podium at the Gulf Air Desert 400, round 12 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, in the Kingdom of Bahrain this weekend.
All weekend Ingall was a consistent runner aboard the #39 Supercheap Auto Commodore. After qualifying in seventh position, the 2005 Series Champion steered clear of the carnage that plagued race one to finish fourth.
In the second 32-lap encounter around the Bahrain International Circuit Ingall manouvered his way into podium contention by crossing the line in second place behind the dominant Jamie Whincup.
Armed with a front row starting spot for race three Ingall made a lightning start to lead the field through the opening turn. For the opening few laps Ingall and Whincup exchanged the front running on a number of occasions. Some slick work in the pit area by the Supercheap Auto-backed team ensured Ingall held onto second spot as the pit stops cycled through.
With the focus on ensuring that he made it onto the podium for the round, Ingall steered clear of any potential incidents and maintained his position inside the top five for the remainder of the race to secure third place overall for the round.
This weekend's podium result is Ingall's second of the year and 36th of his career. His strong haul of points also ensured that he moved clear of Steve Johnson into ninth spot in the championship standings.
Whincup won all three races over the weekend and now leads the championship by 187 points over Mark Winterbottom with two rounds remaining. The penultimate round of the championship will be held at Tasmania's Symmons Plains Circuit in two weeks time (November 21-23)
WHAT HE HAD TO SAY....
Russell Ingall -- Driver of the #39 Supercheap Auto Commodore "It was simply an outstanding weekend for our Supercheap Auto team," said Ingall.
"It is great to get another podium result and my team-mate Paul Morris also finished in the top-10 overall for the weekend.
"The entire team, especially Paul, was pretty emotional at the end of the race. This team has had fleeting success over the years, but he feels this weekend really showed just where we now are.
"The car was very good this weekend. It would have been nice to have something for (Jamie) Whincup and (Craig) Lowndes, but right now everyone in the field is looking for that!
"There are just two rounds to go this year and it would be nice to get another podium -- even a race win."
