TeamVodafone dominate the final leg of the Sucrogen Townsville 400 with military precision
TeamVodafone's military guise proved fruitful in the final leg of the Sucrogen Townsville 400, Jamie Wincup and Craig Lowndes dominating todays 72 lap race to claim another TeamVodafone one-two finish.
Craig Lowndes kicked off proceedings, taking pole position more than three-tenths of a second ahead of yesterday’s pole sitter Mark Winterbottom.
The #888 driver held a clear lead for the majority of the race, but couldn’t maintain the speed his teammate held, Whincup passing Lowndes on Lap 56 of the race.
While Lowndes improved his qualifying pace, Whincup struggled through the 20 mins qualifying session, only managing eighth.
Team strategy and flawless pitstops aided the V8 Supercar Championship Series points leader as he climbed through the order to take the race lead.
In taking his sixth race win of the year Whincup extended his championship lead and now sits 186 points ahead of Lowndes.
The TeamVodafone duo will take a short break before preparing for their home track event at Queensland Raceway on August 19-21.
