VAN GISBERGEN TAKES THE NEXT STEP UP ON THE PODIUM

Shane van Gisbergen scored his best career result today finishing the final race of the BRC IMPCO V8 Supercar Challenge in 2nd place. After starting from 4th place on the grid van Gisbergen had moved up to 2nd by Lap 8 when both Jamie Whincup and James Courtney suffered engine dramas putting them out of the race. Van Gisbergen's combined points for the weekend put him 2nd overall earning him his place on the podium for a third time this season.

Although IRWIN Racing's Alex Davison wasn't able to make gains on his starting position today his three results over the AGP event have seen him finish the weekend 10th overall. Davison finished Race 3 in 15th after being involved in a minor incident with Russell Ingall that cost him valuable positions.

Tim Slade's weekend ended on a sour note when the #47 Wilson Security Racing Falcon was unable to finish the 13 lap race after suffering damage on the opening lap. Slade got off to his best start this season in the race but typically fell victim to the chaos in the midfield.

Shane van Gisbergen - Driver, SP Tools Racing Car #9

"It was pretty unfortunate what happened to Jamie [Whincup] and James [Courtney] but we had a good race. It took me until the middle of the race to get on top of the car as we made some more big changes over night.

"We had a great car at the end there but Garth [Tander] was too far gone. I am really happy to finish the weekend 2nd overall, its a great result for the team."

Alex Davison - Driver, IRWIN Racing Car #4

"I got a terrible start in the race, it was my first real bad one this year. The car wasn't too bad, I had pace on Steven Richards' and was working on getting passed him when Russel Ingall served me up the rear and punted me straight off the road.

"Then there was oil on the track from one of the cars that lost an engine and I flat spotted a tyre on that oil and from that point the tyre was shot so all I could do was hang in there."

Tim Slade - Driver, Wilson Security Racing Car #47

"I got a blinder of a start, it's something that I have worked on all weekend, I don't know where I got up to but I was behind Alex [Davison] and Steven Richards and then they sort of came together at turn one which was fine but then I pulled up to the right of Richards and then suddenly there was a huge hit and that was our race over."

"The aim for that race was to try and press on and get out of the trouble in the mid-field but we were unfortunately caught up in it today."

The Stone Brothers Racing Team will now return to the Gold Coast to begin preparations before the V8 Supercars make the trip across the Tasman for the Hamilton, New Zealand event 16-18 April.
