Stokell Claims Second Win For Lamborghini

Three-time Australian Gold Star driving champion Paul Stokell added another trophy to his collection today with a second straight win for his Lamborghini team in the Cleanevent Nations Cup races at the Fosters Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Starting from pole position as a result of his race one win yesterday, Stokell launched his big black Italian coupe into an immediate lead and dominated the field for the full 10 laps.

Toyota's Formula One test driver Ryan Briscoe again finished second in a Ferrari 360 Michelotto and Jim Richards picked up another third place for his new Porsche GT3 Cup.

The American V10 Vipers of D'arcy Russell and Rusty French followed, with Peter Fitzgerald making an impressive charge from 20th on the grid to sixth at the finish in his Porsche GT3 Cup.

Despite the V12 Lamborghini Diablo's superiority, today's race was a closer contest on a track surface made slower after rain this morning.

Richards survived a first-corner clash with Geoff Morgan, whose Viper spun off the track, while the Porsches of Matt Coleman and Tony Quinn headed for the repairers after collisions with the wall and John Teulan's Ferrari, respectively.

Briscoe, 20, was gaining confidence with the new Ferrari - the first car he has raced with a roof - and would make some set-up changes for tomorrow's third race, a spokesman for his Prancing Horse Racing team said.

"He's got a grin from ear-to-ear and is relishing the experience here," the spokesman said.

"For a car that is just out of the box from Italy, we're pleased with the Ferrari's performance against the well-tested Lamborghini. Ryan is talking to the engineers about changes for tomorrow and that's a sign he's ready to go faster."
