BARGWANNA QUALIFIES 21ST AFTER ENGINE CHANGE
Rock Racing driver Jason Bargwanna has qualified in 21st place for the BRC IMPCO V8 Challenge at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne, Victoria today.
It was a solid recovery for Bargwanna, with the team working hard to fit the #11 Rock Commodore with a fresh engine after Bargwanna suffered an engine failure in practice earlier in the day.
Tony Ricciardello gave the #16 Stratco Commodore it's first on-track outing today at the Formula 1 Qantas Austrlaian Grand Prix, also the West Aussie driver's first laps around the 5.303-kilometre circuit.
Ricciardello set the 27th fastest time in qualifuing today and with vital track knowledge under his belt, the six-time Australian Sports Sedan champ is aiming to march up the order in tomorrow's 13-lap race, the first of three at this event.
Jamie Whincup was fastest in qualifying today ahead of Garth Tander and Greg Murphy, with the opening race of the weekend tomorrow evening at 6:15pm (AESDT).
KELLY RACING QUOTEBOARD
JASON BARGWANNA - #11 Rock Holden Commodore:
"It was obviously tough to lose the engine there halfway though practice and that did put us behind a bit but the crew boys did a sensational job to get a fresh engine in before qualifying," said Jason Bargwanna.
"I'm really happy with the Rock Commodore and it has a good balance, we just missed the Shootout by three tenths so with some more track time over the weekend we can get some really good results.
"Every time I come here I just love the place, not just the atmosphere but also the circuit because it's a really good, long circuit and I think it's going to suit what we have in terms of a race set-up. I'm looking forward to our three races at the Grand Prix this weekend."
TONY RICCIARDELLO - #16 Stratco Holden Commodore:
"It was my first time racing at this track today and it's actually pretty hairy in places," said Tony Ricciardello.
"We've now done a few miles with the one practice session and qualifying and we're looking alright so far.
"We are finding our feet and we've found a good car set-up a lot quicker here so I'm pretty happy with how we are going.
"We've obviously made a big change with our colours, switching to red on the Stratco Commodore, so now we need to keep the changes and improvements coming in terms of our car speed.
"We're adjusting and making improvements all the time but it's also a matter of learning as we go and making sure we have a good, solid weekend here to help us for when we get to Hamilton and points are on the line again."
