CENTURY BATTERIES AUSTRALIAN GT PRODUCTION CAR CHAMPIONSHIP
10th APRIL 1999 ETSA POWER GTP - SENSATIONAL ADELAIDE 500
RICHARDS HOLDS OUT DUELLING PORSCHE DUO
Jim Richards again showed he was the king of the streets of Adelaide with his second victory of the weekend in race two of the ETSA Power GTP event at the Sensational Adelaide 500 today.
After claiming the 1-hour night race last night, Richards again repeated the dose but not before holding off the duelling Porsche 911 RSCSs of Geoff Morgan and Ed Aitken.
Aitken made a stunning pass for second on the final lap of the event only for Morgan to retake the runner-up position in the run to the finish line.
But for RIchards, the winningest ever touring car driver on the streets of Adelaide, the victory was another sweet success.
"This circuit has lost none of its character and I am wrapped to take another win," Richards said.
"I tried to make sure I didn't push too hard in case I needed something in reserve to hold the guys off.
"The car has run faultlessly all weekend but it is no use charging too hard and having nothing up your sleave."
Perry Spiridis performed strongly to grab fourth aboard his Maserati Ghibli, passing Darren Palmer's Ferrari F355 Challenge with three laps to go.
Richards recorded the fastest race lap of the event, stopping the clocks at 1:35.078 around the streets of Adelaide.
Geoff Full was again dominant in Class B aboard the Subaru Impreza WRX, finishing 6th outright while holding out Peter Boylan’s Subaru and Paula Elstrek's Mazda RX7.
David Ratcliff returned to the winner's circle in Class C aboard his Toyota Camry CSi. Mark Cohen held the early lead aboard his Holden Commodore VS SS while Rob Chadwick’s Mitsubishi Magna TH Sports.
Michael Simpson was again dominant in Class S with the BMW 323i. Nick Lucas took second aboard his Toyota MR2 GT.
Sue Hughes made it back on track today aboard her Suzuki Swift GTi after suffering a blown engine in qualifying yesterday and rebuilding the motor overnight.
Kosi Kalaitzidis took his second victory of the weekend aboard the Proton M21 Coupe, holding out young local driver Craig Dontas (Suzuki Swift GTi)
