Strong Adelaide Start For Bowe And The Cat Squad

John Bowe and the Cat Racing team pulled out a strong performance in qualifying today for this weekend's Clipsal 500 on the Streets of Adelaide.

Bowe showed strong early speed from the first session of the day and finished afternoon by qualifying ninth in the top 15 shoot-out.

With two 250km races looming over the next two days, Bowe is eagerly awaiting the chance to do battle on the Adelaide streets.

"I am really pleased the way the car and whole crew worked today," Bowe said.

"The car was good from the first session and we achieved our goal of having a strong run in the shoot-out.

"In these long distance races, your grid spot is not as vital but our speed was very pleasing.

"We are right amongst some pretty good company including Craig Lowndes and in front of some pretty good competitors including Steven Johnson, Jason Bright and Russell Ingall."

"I had a little bit of understeer in the shoot-out, but everybody is in the same boat because you do not have long to bring heat into your tyres."

Holden driver Greg Murphy took pole position in the shoot-out ahead of championship leader, Mark Skaife.

Bowe is looking forward to the Adelaide weekend - the event where he finished fourth in 2000.

"This is the toughest race of the year and we are in the toughest touring car competition in the world," Bowe said.

"Adelaide is such a fantastic weekend because everybody gets behind the race and the atmosphere is great.

"It is very tough on the drivers, particularly if it is hot. You have to concentrate on drinking lots of fluids to stay hydrated.

"I've gone well here in the past but my main aim will be to keep our nose clean tomorrow to stay out of trouble. There is double points up for grab on Sunday, so you have make sure you are strong throughout the entire weekend." <pre> TOP FIFTEEN SHOOT-OUT 1. - Murphy (Holden) - 1:25.920 2. - Skaife (Holden) - 1:25.974 3. - Kelly (Holden) - 1:25.995 4. - Radisich (Ford) - 1:26.048 5. - Seton (Ford) - 1:26.081 6. - Ambrose (Ford) - 1:26.095 7. - Tander (Holden) - 1:26.286 8. - Lowndes (Ford) - 1:26.321 9. - BOWE (CAT FORD) - 1:26.348 10. -Johnson (Ford) - 1:26.420 11. -Bright (Holden)- 1:26.511 12. -Ingall (Holden)- 1:26.589 13. -Richards (Ford)- 1:26.652 14. -Larkham (Ford) - 1:26.726 15. -Perkins (Holden) -1:27.262
