BARGWANNA PLEASED WITH PROMISING START TO SEASON
Rock Racing driver Jason Bargwanna is pleased with his promising start to the season after a 15th place finish in the second race of the Yas V8 400 at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi today.
Bargwanna sits 13th in the championship standings in the #11 Rock Holden Commodore after a solid weekend in Abu Dhabi.
After qualifying in 14th place earlier in the day, Bargwanna lost ground on the opening lap when forced to avoid a spinning Steven Richards.
Bargwanna fought back and showed great car speed over the course of the race, capped off by a long battle with Will Davison in the second half of the race.
Tony Ricciardello achieved his pre-event objectives aboard the #16 Super-Max Holden Commodore, finishing both races to not only gain experience but also stay out of trouble and maximise track time.
Ricciardello's lap times improved with every session over the weekend, with his speed even improving over the course of today's race, giving him confidence for the next event in Bahrain.
Jamie Whincup won his second race for the weekend in Abu Dhabi today ahead of Mark Winterbottom, Shane van Gisbergen and Rick Kelly.
The second event of the 2010 V8 Supercar Championship Series will be staged next weekend when the Gulf Air Desert 400 is staged at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain.
KELLY RACING QUOTEBOARD
Jason Bargwanna - #11 Rock Holden Commodore:
"It's a great way to start the year to be just outside the top 10," said Jason Bargwanna.
"We've come away with two solid results. We got a bit caught up in that first corner incident and it cost me probably about five or six spots but I'm still pretty happy with the result.
"The Rock Commodore had good speed but I was stuck behind Will Davison for the last 20 laps. I just couldn't find a way through but I'm still happy with the way we've started the year."
Tony Ricciardello - #16 Super-Max Holden Commodore:
"It's was a solid weekend for the Super-Max Razors Commodore," said Tony Ricciardello.
"We are here to finish both races and get some points together and do a good job with the boys and we came home in one piece, ready for the next round.
"More miles helps and that showed. On our last few laps we were probably quicker than we've been all weekend and we had pretty good pace in comparison to others.
"That's promising, we just need to work on generating as much grip as we can on a green tyre and to be better in qualifying.
"That will come slowly and we're bonding together well, so it's a good start to the year."
