CHANCES FOR A ROOKIE FOURTH BLOWN

Any chance Chris Delfsma could finish off his maiden year in the Shannons V8 Touring Car National Series with a well-deserved fourth, disappeared in a cloud of smoke in the third and final practice session here at Sandown Park Raceway today Friday October 22.

The rookies' Century 21 backed ex-Howard Racing Ford Falcon AU began the day well, being fifth in the first practice session which was basically a "systems check" period. His lap times in the second outing were a touch faster as the team began "dialling the car in" but the third session was barely underway when the engine let go.

"The engine threw a rod - without any notice at all. Turn four it was all good but never made turn five," remarked a despondent Delfsma.

"It is a shame really. Sandown is a track I like a lot and we have had good results there in the past, so I was really looking forward to racing here this weekend," Delfsma said despondently

"After narrowly missing a podium at Eastern Creek through bad starts, I had been concentrating on that with a podium place as the goal for the weekend. We had made some improvements to the car so everything was in place for a good weekend," he added.

Delfsma has been something of a revelation since joining the series from Production Cars for the Winton round three. After solid results there he improved at the following round -- at Eastern Creek -- finishing fourth overall.
