HEPBURN RUNS WITH THE HOLDEN PACK

Timaru driver Johnny Hepburn had another pleasing weekend at Round 3 of the BNT V8s Championship at Teretonga Park in Invercargill this weekend.

Hepburn declared himself "pretty happy overall" at the conclusion of a weekend that saw him running competitively with the other Holdens in the V8 Championship field.

After overcoming brake problems in testing Hepburn made some changes after the first segment of qualifying, changes that paid dividends. After making those adjustments he quickly forged his way further up the grid although the session ended with gearbox damage to the John Hepburn Racing Commodore.

The first two races produced good results for Hepburn and while the Holdens generally struggled at Teretonga, with the Ford contingent dominating the major placings, the South Canterbury driver was pleased to be the 4th of the Holden runners in each race.

The reverse grid race began badly for John as, in his words, he was totally annihilated at the first corner. The Commodore "took a whack" in the right front corner. After that the car was a handful. "I couldn't turn in. The front turned in and the back kept coming around!"

However Hepburn hung in and brought the car home to complete another solid points haul.

"We're still learning but we are running with all the Holdens now," said Hepburn as the team packed up in readiness for the next round at their home circuit next weekend. The boys worked hard and did a great job again and overall I'm happy with the weekend."

Round 4 at the Timaru Motor Raceway at Levels on the outskirts of Timaru takes place on 23/24 January.
