A weekend of solid results at the Powerbuilt Raceway saw Andy Booth climbing the championship ladder from 7th to 5th equal position at the BNTV8's in Christchurch. The racing was as hot as the weather, and the crowds turned out for a great weekend of entertainment.

Saturday was a stunning blue sky day and promised to deliver some excellent conditions for motor racing. Practice sessions and qualifying were showing incredible lap times well under the lap record set in 2005, and The Rock Commodore was feeling the best it has ever done on the Ruapuna circuit. The first race on Sunday had Boothy starting in 9th position after struggling with the new tyres in qualifying and with equal parts skill and good luck crossed the line in 4th place and later elevated to 3rd with the disqualification of John McIntyre.

An expansive second race of the day saw The Rock Commodore come home in 5th position with a wide spread field dominated by some well performing Fords. The final 20 lap reverse grid race provided plenty of the usual excitement and carnage in the opening laps but then settled into a reasonably processional affair for the second half of the race. Andy's consistent driving pace saw The Rock Commodore pick up 8 places to finish 7th in the field. "The car has been feeling well balanced all weekend but the outright speed to match the lead pace just hasn't been there. The consistency of pace through the final race was encouraging"

Steady driving performances, and keeping The Rock Commodore out of any incidents, Andy managed to improve his overall championship position. With the gap to the top three places only 20 points away, there's everything to race for as the series kicks off in Invercargill January 15th and 16th. Until then, the team returns to Auckland to enjoy the Christmas break.

A big thanks goes out to The Rock Roadies for coming along on Sunday and providing a truckload of atmosphere to the V8 fans. It was also great to see a big contingent of the Wynn's South Island team and their invited guests out at the trackside hospitality.
