SOLID DAY FOR MCNALLY IN V8 UTES AT WINTON

Rhys McNally had a solid day of qualifying and racing at Winton Raceway today as he drove his West Coast Racing V8 Ute into the top ten.

With Rhys becoming more confident with every outing, he put the ute on grid 10 in qualifying, an amazing effort considering his lack of experience in the category.

"The new tyres really helped me in qualifying, the car loved them and responded to the extra grip with good speed," Rhys said.

To top qualifying the first race of the meeting gave Rhys the chance to push hard in close combat, working his way up to 9th place in the shortened 7 lap race.

"I really got to have some close racing in that race and it was good to be able to push hard while in the pack," Rhys said.

"A few more laps would have been good as I was gaining heaps of confidence and I was all over the guy in front of me."

Rhys will start from grid 3 for race 2 tomorrow in what is a reverse top 11 after a barrel draw.

"I have two Fords in front of me and the Holdens seem to get off the line better so I will do my best to make good off the line and just go hard from there."
