CLOSE CALL FOR MCNALLY IN FIRST V8 UTE RACE

Rhys McNally almost ended his first V8 Utes race in disaster when he tagged the notorious Turn 8 wall before on lap 1 before pushing on to finish 14th in his first V8 Utes race at Adelaide today.

After qualifying 14th Rhys was confident of pushing up the grid as he familarised himself with the competitive category as he headed in to his first race of the weekend.

The first lap turned out to be a real lesson for Rhys as he experience the ferocity of the category.

"I was really unprepared for how hard these guys go in the first lap," he said.

"There is no room for easing into the races here, the guys are going flat out and pushing around right from the start.

"I was unlucky to hit the Turn 8 wall on the first lap, but lucky I could continue in the race."

The impact damaged the front end of the car which made it push every lap at Turn 8, the most daunting corner on the track but Rhys was able to push on to the end.

"I learned a lot today, I will definitely attack on the first lap more tomorrow and think that we can have a better result if all goes to plan."

Rhys has one final race tomorrow, where he will share the drive with Tim Shaw to complete the Legends event this weekend.
