SPECIAL BIRTHDAY PRESENT FOR MCNALLY IN TOWNSVILLE V8 UTES

Rhys McNally celebrated his 20th birthday today with his best result yet in the V8 Utes as he powered to 6th place for the meeting.

Starting from grid 1 in today's Race 2, Rhys put in a strong performance to finish in fourth place after dropping back as far as eighth place.

"I had a good race and was able to get some solid laps and passing in which has done a lot for my confidence," Rhys said.

The final race of the day had Rhys starting from position 5.

The first lap saw a lot of carnage with the track partially blocked which impeded Rhys as he made sure he kept out of trouble.

The lead pack had gained a large gap through the blockage and while Rhys gained time he was unable to gain positions, eventually finishing seventh.

With his two best results coming today Rhys finished sixth for the meeting, his best yet, and left him confident going into a nine week break before the next round at Phillip Island.

"I am really happy to turn my form around after Darwin, we have worked hard leading up to this meeting and it paid off today.

"The guys at HiTech Motorsport have done a fantastic job with the car, it is going perfectly which makes my job a lot easier.

"It was great to have the NRW guys here this weekend to support me on the opposite side of the country from their base."

Rhys will take his car to Perth during the break so he can show his sponsors and also conduct a few ride days for the people who have supported him this season.

Phillip Island is a track Rhys has raced before in the Formula Ford but never the Ute.

"It will be good to go to a track I know," he said.

"But still it will be no doubt very different in the V8 Ute."
