MCNALLY TAKES FIRST WIN IN V8 UTES ON GOLD COAST

Rhys McNally scored his maiden win in the V8 Utes on the streets of Surfers Paradise today when he won race 2 of the V8 Utes.

Starting from grid 2 Rhys got a lightning start, which also won him the "hotshot award", to take the lead into the first turn.

The West Australian was never headed even after a safety car restart.

"I got an awesome start and then just put my head down and never looked back," Rhys said.

"The car was easy to drive, it is a credit to Barrel and the team at Hi Tech Motorsport."

The day did have a downside for Rhys in the final race where he started from grid 3 only to be bashed into the concrete wall on the first corner.

"We got severely damaged down the side of the car," Rhys said.

"It was just a matter of salvaging what we could from there."

Rhys went on to finish 10th in the race and 6th for the round, his second best result of the season.

"We got valuable points today for the series and the rookie award so I am pretty happy on that front even though the final race was not so good."

Rhys will now look forward to the final round of the series at Sydney's Homebush in December.

"I am confident heading into the last round that we can put in a strong performance to end the season on a high."
