MCNALLY CREEPS UP THE V8 UTES FIELD AT BATHURST

Rhys McNally continued to chip away in both V8 Utes races at Mount Panorama Bathurst today as he score a set of 17th finishing positions in the two races.

After qualifying 22nd yesterday Rhys made some headway in the first race to finish 17th after a solid performance on the tough circuit.

"I just kept my head down and made up positions anywhere I could," he said.

"I was pretty happy to have a clean race and gain a few positions as well.

Race 2 started with a sandwich in turn 1 after a sluggish start left Rhys fighting for position.

With a slow run up mountain straight Rhys lost a number of positions by turn two which left him with a fight on his hands for the rest of the race.

"We had a safety car for three laps which left little time to make up lost ground."

Rhys did get back to 17th in the few remaining laps before the race was cut short due to TV time.

"We actually have good pace now which is a bit frustrating because of how far back I am starting.

"I need to work on my starts because the straight is uphill here and I have bogged it down twice already this weekend which cost me a lot on the first laps."

Rhys is confident on improving his position in tomorrow's final race.

"I have the speed, I just need a good start and if I can keep chipping away at the field I should be able to get a reasonable result from the weekend."
