Johnson Sets it Straight in Race 2

Hi-Tech Motorsport's Grant Johnson made a spectacular come back after what has so far been a horrific weekend for the West Aussie.

Starting last on the grid for Race 2 of the Sydney round, Johnson made up a massive 26 places in the 12 lap assault to finish 5th.

Just last night the decision was made to strip Johnson of his points from both Qualifying and Race 1 of the round, after a scrutineering discrepancy with the brake line in the #47 Holden.

The exemption brought the championship points gap between series leader Johnson and team mate Jack Elsegood into the twenties.

Johnson wasted no time in coming back at the penalties and in just 6 laps, had charged his way to an incredible 8th place.

"We've had a fast car all year and we went out there today with a real point to prove that it wasn't a performance enhancing thing that we had done," said an ecstatic Johnson. "We had nothing to lose" "I was just thinking 'the next car, just get the next car',"

Rhys McNally also stormed his way up the field before contact with another competitor sent him into a wall after only 2 laps.

"Its disappointing because I had just passed four cars coming through the corner, it was the last car where we got into trouble."

The NRW Ute suffered extensive damage and McNally was unable to finish the race.

With under 2 hours before Race 2, the Boys at Hi-Tech are working furiously to get the car into shape for the final assault.

Jack Elsegood finished the reverse grid race in 10th, and with only a small championship points gap remaining between himself and Johnson, the final race is set to be a thrilling sprint to the end.
