Johnson Energised for Homebush
V8 Ute front-runner Grant Johnson is heading into the final round of the Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series with a brand new major sponsor on board. Only a fortnight out from the Sydney Telstra 500, Johnson secured specialist project support and recruitment agency, Brunel Energy as his major sponsor.
Having faced a number of rounds mid-season with no major sponsor, Johnson is looking forward to being able to focus on the final race meeting for the year without the extra financial burden.
"Now that Brunel Energy is on board, it has taken a lot of pressure off and we can now just concentrate on going racing," said Johnson. Johnson has been charging the pack alone in his matte black VE for most of the season, with only the help of a few minor and round sponsors.
Incredibly, since Johnson first arrived at Clipsal in March with his ute stickered "advertise here", he's only missed one round podium. At the Phillip Island round the plea was raised to a rear panel full of
"will race for food".
Thanks to the hard work of the team from Hi-tech Motorsport, the 2007 champion currently sits atop the ladder, 87 points clear of teammate Jack Elsegood.
The comfortable bumper means Johnson is almost certain to take this year's
championship. "We've had a great car all year and I'm feeling confident we'll have a good run in Sydney," Said Johnson
"I'm not worried about Jack, I'm just going to focus on my own racing and see where we end up at the end of the weekend."
Practice will get underway for the V8 Utes on Friday morning, with qualifying and race 1 on Saturday, and race 2 and 3 on Sunday.
