USF2000 Mid-Ohio preview
The UF2000 series heads to Mid-Ohio for three races this weekend.

The Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda returned to the Streets of Toronto where Florian Latorre and Jake Eidson scored their first wins of the season. Their next race weekend is a triple-header at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
This upcoming weekend is the penultimate racing weekend for the USF2000 series and could shake up the championship in a dramatic way, given what happened in Toronto.
Series points leader RC Enerson finished seventieth in the second race in Toronto thanks to a mechanical failure, leaving Florian Latorre and Jake Eidson to finish one-two, opposite how they finished race one (with Enerson finishing third in that race) and pulling away from Enerson in the points battle.
Latorre leads the points battle over Eidson and Enerson by a total of 199 to 184 to 177. How Latorre got there is the model of consistency.
Latorre has had a finish no lower than the first race of the season in St. Petersburg where he finished in 7th place. Other than a 6th at Lucas Oil Raceway, he’s had the rest of his finishes be in the top five with a fifth, a fourth, a third, three second place finishes and the win at Toronto.
Eidson, however, has two ninth place finishes, an eighth, and the rest of his races were in the top four, so he is a surefire contender for the championship.
As for Enerson, he had a second place finish to start off the year, backed that up with three wins, then had an Indiana slump with a seventh and tenth at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course and a 16th at Lucas Oil Raceway.
Enerson’s real test will be this weekend. If he can win two out of three races and podium in the other one, he can give himself a much better chance of winning the championship heading into the final race weekend of the year in Sonoma.
One race will be run Friday, a second Saturday, and the weekend finale on Sunday.
Today was the first day of practice for the USF2000 series and Enerson was able to top the time sheets in both practice sessions.
In the first session, Enerson posted a fastest lap of 1:23.2854 while Eidson and Latorre were second and third in the session. Later on in the day, Enerson bested his time by nearly two seconds with a fastest lap of 1:21.4982. Jeroen Slaghekke and Austin Cindric, son of Team Penske team principal Tim Cindric, finished the session second and third respectively. Latorre was fourth while Eidson was ninth.
