SERRALLES JOINS LIBERTY MOTORSPORTS FOR REMAINDER OF USF2000 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON
MAZDASPEED Motorsports backed racer will contest both the Road America and Road Atlanta doubleheaders with the Illinois-based squad
ROCKFORD, ILL. (August 12, 2010) - Liberty Motorsports is excited to announce that MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development Driver Felix Serralles will join the Ilinois-based squad for the remainder of the 2010 Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda season. The highly-rated Puerto Rican will make his series debut during Rounds Nine and Ten at Road America on August 21-22.
Liberty Motorsports, in its continued commitment to winning and helping young drivers develop into future stars of motorsports, is pleased to add Serralles to its talented driver line-up. In preparation for a planned full-season campaign in 2011, the highly-rated 18 year-old will contest the final four USF2000 National Championship races this season at Road America and Road (September 30-October 1). Piloting the No. 14 Liberty Motorsports entry sponsored by SS Discount Tire of Haines City, Fla., Serralles will join fellow series rookie Matthew Powers underneath the team awning in both Wisconsin and Georgia. Given the success Serralles enjoyed in his inaugural pro Formula Ford 2000 outing at Lime Rock Park - finishing sixth and eighth in the F2000 Championship Series - Liberty Motorsports is confident the talented young driver can immediately challenge for top honors.
"Liberty Motorsports welcomes the opportunity to work with a driver of Seralles caliber," commented Chuck Lessick, Liberty Motorsports Team Manager. "Helping young standout drivers climb the ladder is what our team is all about, and we'll be working for some good results and a strong finish to the season."
"I'm excited to be joining Liberty Motorsports for the rest of the 2010 USF2000 National Championship season," stated Serralles. "The team has showed it can give its drivers a good car, so hopefully I can have a good run at both Road America and Road Atlanta."
Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and currently residing Haines City, Fla., Serralles enters the competitive USF2000 National Championship with Liberty Motorsports having enjoyed a successful start to his young racing career. The former karting standout first made the move to car racing last season, earning three top-10s in a limited six-race Skip Barber National campaign. The teenager promptly followed that up by being one of two drivers to win the top prize in the Skip Barber Karting Shoot-Out Scholarship, earning a funded ride in the 2010 Skip Barber National series via the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Driver Development program. As a Mazda-backed racer, Serralles has continued to show good skill behind the wheel this season, winning once and finishing on the podium five times in Skip Barber National competition. He recently expanded his racing resume, taking part in three Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge races, and two F2000 Championship Series races, impressing onlookers by finishing in top-10 in both F2000 races.
In its first full-season of pro Formula Ford 2000 competition, Liberty Motorsports has rapidly established itself as front-running squad. The Illinois-based team, racing in both the F2000 Championship Series and USF2000 National Championship, has stood on the podium four times, been among the top-five seven times and finished among the top-10 17 times.
Liberty Motorsports returns to action on August 21-22, with Rounds Nine and Ten of the Cooper Tires presents the USF2000 National Championship powered by Mazda at the famed Road America course in Wisconsin.
