LIBERTY MOTORSPORTS SET TO CHALLENGE FOR TOP USF2000 HONORS ON HOME TRACK
Powers and new signing Serralles enter Rounds Nine and 10 poised to build on strong recent outings
ROCKFORD, IL. (August 19, 2010) - Liberty Motorsports travels to its home track of Road America this weekend (August 21-22), ready to challenge for top honors in Rounds Nine and Ten of the Cooper Tires presents the USF2000 National Championship powered by Mazda. With talented young racers Matthew Powers and Felix Serralles behind the wheels, the Illinois-based squad enters the doubleheader with two drivers more than capable of standing on the top step of the podium.
Three weeks after a highly successful outing at the Autobahn Country Club just outside of Chicago, Liberty Motorsports is excited to be returning to USF2000 action at its unofficial home circuit, Road America in Wisconsin. With the team returning to a two-car operation for the remainder of the year via pro racing rookie Powers being joined by MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development driver Serralles, the goal during the American Le Mans Series event will be to battle for race wins. Given both drivers have shown good speed and skill behind the wheel of late, combined with the fact Liberty Motorsports has extensive testing and race experience at the 4.0-mile road course to draw from, it would be unwise to discount the Illinois squad duo.
"We're looking to back-up our strong showing at Autobahn this weekend," commented Chuck Lessick, Liberty Motorsports Team Manager. "Matt and Felix should work well together and both have the potential to be on the podium, and we'll do our best to get them there."
Powers enters his third-ever formula car event, having already developed into a series front-runner. The No. 41 Liberty Motorsports Van Diemen was among the drivers to watch in Rounds Seven and Eight at Autobahn, eventually finishing an impressive fourth in both races of the doubleheader.
Serralles will make his USF2000 debut with Liberty Motorsports, following an impressive outing in his pro F2000 debut and a strong rookie campaign in the Skip Barber National series thus far. The recent team signing - who will pilot the No. 14 SS Discount Tire/Liberty Motorsports entry - recently finished sixth and eighth in the pro F2000 races at Lime Rock Park, and currently lies fourth in the Skip Barber National series with one win.
