JDC MOTORSPORTS DUO TO TAKE PART IN NON-POINTS USF2000 DOUBLEHEADER

Goikhberg and Sala to utilize races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to build momentum and go after their inaugural pro wins

MONTEREY, CALIF. (May 19, 2010) - Northern California will play host to JDC MotorSports and the rest of the Cooper Tires presents the USF2000 National Championship powered by Mazda field this coming weekend (May 22-23), when a pair of non-points races take place at the renowned Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca facility. Seeking to build momentum on a solid start to its 2010 pro Formula Ford campaign, which featured one top-five and five top-10s, the Minnesota-based squad will have rookies Mikhail Goikhberg and Martin Sala getting behind the wheels.

Over a month after starting the season on the streets of St. Petersburg, the JDC MotorSports USF2000 cars will once again get the chance to hit the track in anger via two non-points races. While the primary goal will be to get the JDC racers valuable added seat time and race experience during the doubleheader, both Goikhberg and Sala will be looking to leave California with their first pro series wins. Despite facing stiff competition from both USF2000 regulars and seasoned west coast pro F2000 drivers and teams, the duo are poised the make the most of the late addition to the 2010 racing calendar.

A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, who currently resides in Waterloo, Ont., Goikhberg enters the 'exhibition' event in California following a solid series debut in Florida. Piloting the No. 10 Chetverg/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports entry, the former Ontario Formula Ford front-runner was one of only a few drivers able to turn fast times and keep his nose clean during the opening two rounds, finishing seventh and eighth on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla. Returning to a more familiar undulating road course, Goikhberg is expected to be challenging for top honors during the California doubleheader.

After mixed results in the Florida season-opening doubleheader, the Colombian Sala will be seeking to build some momentum in California. The No. 19 Gulf/Aero Gal/Red Line Oil/JDC MotorSports racer was a driver worth keeping an eye on in Round One, earning a fifth place finish. Unfortunately a pair of first lap incidents ended Sala's run for glory early in Round Two. Having already shown the speed to run up-front, many expect Sala to be at the pointy end of the field on the west coast.

The non-points doubleheader at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca commences for JDC MotorSports drivers and the rest of the Cooper Tires presents the USF2000 National Championship powered by Mazda field on Thursday (May 20) via a pair of 40-minute test sessions. Two 30-minute practice runs are on tap on day two. The lone qualifying session, which will set the grid for both races, will take place on Saturday afternoon (May 22), prior to the 'exhibition' races on Sunday (May 23) at 10:15 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. local time.
