Winning from pole at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is certainly a feather in any driver’s cap, but for Nico Jamin, it was hard fought.

Jamin led at the start of today’s USF2000 race, but a first lap collision involving Yufeng Luo and James Dayson drew a full course yellow.

On the restart, Jamin’s teammate Aaron Telitz went around the Frenchman, leaving the polesitter to battle with points leader Jake Eidson.

Eidson and Jamin battled hard over the next few laps as Telitz pulled away before another caution flag bunched up the field late in the race. Parker Thompson was going through the field after starting dead last but unfortunately collided with Keyvan Andres Soori.

On the restart, Telitz was on the brakes too late heading into turn one, getting a couple of wheels off track and causing a jam up that resulted in Eidson getting the lead and Jamin fell down the standings to third and Telitz was down to fifth.

Telitz was able to fight back, getting around Luke Gabin for fourth and then Anthony Martin for third near the end of the race. Jamin was able to get to second quickly and then went after Eidson.

On the last lap, Eidson defended into the first two corners, but Jamin was able to sneak on by for his third win of the season over Eidson and Telitz.

Jamin was analytical of his final pass.

“On the last lap I was pulling my head down in the straight like we do in karting, I wanted to get him. On the last lap, I was close, I could get a draft on the straight and obviously he closed the door. I went on the outside, we both braked really deep, he went a little bit straight, I could cross him and made the outside in turn two,” Jamin said.

Eidson was critical of his own driving, partly crediting it for helping Jamin catch him.

Eidson: “He was coming up pretty fast and I made a few mistakes going through the esses which kind of helped him close that gap and then on the last lap he got a good run going into turn one and then I also locked up going into turn one which didn’t help much either.”
