I was thinking recently, especially regarding F1 about how sterile the sport has become. Cars running at 75% so as to limit stress on the parts/engine/tyres etc. reduced speeds and tracks that promote driving round in order. I was thinking that this has changed racing. I was also wondering about the amount of so called incidents that are investigated by stewards, minor collisions, cars missing wings etc. Drivers sending their cars up the inside and the other driver slamming the door and ruining both cars. I think a lot of drivers feel they can take risks because the danger is now hidden because of the rules. I am a big fan of the 80s and have been watching many races. Cars and drivers on the limit lots of clean overtakes and great racing. Retirements were part of the games. It was a balance between speed and reliability. That has now been taken away from the teams/drivers and i think for the worst. I'm not saying we should go back but we need to give the sport back to the drivers. Everybody thinks 'it was better in my day' but ask yourself this question. How many current drivers would be able to get into a team in the 80's and 90's. Prost, Rosberg snr, Piquet snr, Senna to name a small few. They're not drivers now they're pilots! Please don't get in a twist it's just to start a dialogue
