Mike Baisch of West Valley, Utah scored his first USAC Sprint car feature victory Saturday night in the 40-lap Valvoline USAC Western and USAC/SLVRA Rocky Mountain Sprint Car race at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Baisch put his Kar Products/Simpson Equipment Eagle/Chevy into the lead on lap 15 when defending Western Sprint Champ Michael Lewis encountered brake problems. Baisch then paced the final 26 laps to beat defending USAC/SLVRA Champ Jim Waters, Brian Evans, Shauna Hogg and Greg Anderson.

Baisch's victory left him with an eight-point lead over Waters in the new USAC/SLVRA standings going into this Saturday night's race at the Salt Lake oval. Western Sprint Car leader Brad Bumgarner finished 12th Saturday and leads Lewis by 20 points going into an August 7 Western race at Madera, Calif.
