5 Lewis entries for "Turkey Night Grand Prix"
Drivers: Darland, East, Kahne, Stewart & Yeley.

Car owner Steve Lewis is increasing his percentages for winning the November 28 Lucas Oil "Turkey Night Grand Prix" at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway. The South Laguna, Calif. owner, whose 101 career USAC wins are a club record, has entered five cars for the 62nd running of one of America's most traditional motorsports events!

Tony Stewart, Dave Darland, Kasey Kahne, J.J. Yeley and Bobby East are the pilots and their credentials are extensive. Stewart, leading the battle for the 2002 NASCAR Winston Cup Championship, won "Turkey Night" at Irwindale in 2000.

This year's Lucas Oil "Turkey Night Grand Prix" program is a "tripleheader," featuring three different types of USAC race cars - the Sprint cars, Midget Cars and Ford Focus Midget Cars.

Lewis has accounted for eight spots on the "Turkey Night" podium the past four years. In 1999 Jason Leffler led a 1-2-3 "sweep" for Lewis drivers in the annual event and the following year produced a 1-2 Stewart-Kahne finish.

The five Lewis drivers have 123 total USAC National career wins (19 this year) and 11 USAC National Championships. Stewart and Kahne also own 2002 USAC Western Sprint wins and East also won a USAC Midget Special Event this year. Two of USAC's three career "Triple Crown" Champions are on the team (Stewart and Darland), along with USAC's 2002 Weld Racing Silver Crown Champion (Yeley) and the youngest winner in USAC history (East). Yeley, the most successful USAC driver of 2002, has already posted 14 USAC feature victories in various series this year.

Dave Steele of Tampa, Fla. is the defending "Turkey Night" champion and joins the list of formidable challengers to the Lewis team in the Midget portion of the "Turkey Night" program but Darland, of Lincoln, Ind., currently leads the National Midget Car standings in search of a second consecutive title. Robby Flock of Murietta, Calif. leads the Western Midget Car standings in search of his fourth series title.

Tony Hunt of Fair Oaks, Calif. is the defending USAC Western Sprint Car Champion and won last year's "Turkey Night" Sprint car feature. He returns in a tight battle for the 2002 series championship with several other drivers, including series point leader Chad Nichols of San Carlos, Calif.

For the first time, USAC's brand-new Ford Focus Midget Car Series joins the "Turkey Night" card, with Todd Hunsaker of Chino Hills, Calif. leading the series standings. The race concludes the Ford Focus season with a 20-lap feature on the 1/3-mile paved oval.

Practice starts at 3 pm, followed by qualifying at 4:30 and an autograph session at 5. Racing gets under way at 7, with the 100-lap Midget Car main event augmented by a 50-lap Sprint car feature, both on the 1/2-mile pavement.
