SATURDAY'S ALTAMONT MIDGET RACE CANCELLED; SPRINT CARS REMAIN ON THE CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, Calif. will host the USAC Western Sprint Car Series this Saturday, although the USAC Western Midget events, which were originally scheduled, have been removed from the program.

"Scheduling conflicts, the fact that the Midget portion of the event was just recently added to the calendar and other mitigating circumstances have conspired to create a situation not conducive to the best interests of our Midget series participants," said USAC Western Vice President Tommy Hunt. "In that light, we have elected to cancel the Midget portion of Saturday's program."

The Western Sprint Car race, the sixth to be held at the Tracy oval this season, will continue the tradition of USAC racing excellence at the storied track.

The USAC Western Midgets, led by Nic Faas, will now prepare for a September 20 race at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway.
