Lewis extends Western Sprint lead with Tucson victory; Stewart returns for Thursday's Madera race.

Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind. continues to lead the USAC Western Sprint Car Series standings after his 40-lap feature victory at Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway Park Saturday night.

Lewis is expected to face a stiff challenge in this Thursday night's Western Sprint Car race at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway, featuring the return of NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Tony Stewart to series competition! Stewart won at Madera in April and is undefeated in Western Sprint Car competition, winning in all four previous series starts!

Road to Indy fast qualifier Lewis trailed Jim Waters for the first 14 laps at Tucson, then led the final 26 laps in his Western Speed Racing Team ASE/Snap On Eagle/Wesmar. Former series champion Tony Hunt finished second and now trails Lewis by 16 points going into Thursday's Madera races. Brian McClish, Shauna Hogg and Brad Bumgarner rounded out the "top-five" at the finish.

A 40-lap feature event is on tap at Madera where Stewart will team with Lewis in the Western Speed Racing cars. Stewart recorded feature wins in Western Sprint Car racing last year at Tracy, Calif., Irwindale, Calif. and Las Vegas, Nev.
