Tim Barber of San Francisco, Calif and Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind. captured feature events at Meridian Speedway in Boise, Idaho Friday and Saturday nights as the Valvoline Western Sprint Car and USAC/SLVRA Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series combined for back-to-back events on the 1/4-mile paved oval.
Barber passed Kody Swanson on the 34th lap of Friday's race and led the final seven to win the 40-lap contest in his Bos Sheet Metal/Riverside Motorsports Park Eagle/Chevy. Swanson finished second after leading the first 33 laps and was followed at the checkered flag by Brad Bumgarner, defending Western champ Tony Hunt and defending Rocky Mountain champ Jim Waters.
Lewis won Saturday night's 50-lap race, leading the final 35 laps in his Nor-Cal Testing machine after passing Chad Nichols on lap 16. Bumgarner, Kody Swanson, fast qualifier Hunt and Brian McClish completed the "top-five."
Bumgarner, with a third and second-place finish in the two races, leads Lewis and Swanson by a single point in the new Western standings going into an April 30 race as Shasta Raceway Park in Anderson, Calif.
Hunt, with a pair of fourths at Boise, leads the USAC/SLVRA Rocky Mountain points going into a May 7 race at Salt Lake City, Utah.
