Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind. returns to the site of one of his greatest victories this Saturday night as the USAC Western Sprint Cars compete as part of a "tripleheader" program at the Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway.

Lewis won last November's "Turkey Night Grand Prix" Midget classic at Irwindale but Saturday's event will mark his Irwindale Sprint Car debut. He has four wins so far in the 2003 Western Sprint Car series and only once in a dozen starts has he finished worse than seventh!

He leads 2001 Western Sprint Car Champion Tony Hunt by 96 points with 72 available at Irwindale. Hunt is coming off his second victory of the season, at Madera, Calif. Sept. 20, and hopes to close the gap with a victory Saturday.

A 30-lap feature event is slated on the track's 1/2-mile oval, in conjunction with the USAC Western Midget Cars and USAC California Ford Focus Midget Cars. The Midgets will also compete on the 1/2-mile, while the Focuses will compete on the 1/3-mile.

Lewis also won a 25-lap USAC National/Western Midget Car race at Irwindale in April, halting Tracy Hines' bid for a $50,000 cash bonus for a sweep of the "Mopar Twin 25s Irwindale."
