USAC ROAD WARRIORS SLATED FOR VENTURA RACEWAY

VENTURA, Calif. (July 8, 2009) -- Were Paul Revere the Public Relations representative for Ventura Raceway this week, he'd warn us all with the cry, "The Road Warriors are coming, the Road Warriors are coming!"

Revere, a skilled craftsman who would have enjoyed the technical aspects of auto racing, never saw a United States Auto Club race. Still, he knew a thing or two about advance publicity.

He might have warned that USAC's Western Midgets, Ford Focus Midget Dirt and Junior Focus Midgets are scheduled to race at the Raceway this weekend, joining Ventura's Sprint Car, Senior Sprint and kart classes on the July 11 racing schedule at Ventura.

The spectator gates open at 3 p.m. and the traditional flag salute, which Revere would have enjoyed, starts at 5:30.

Garrett Hansen, the Western Midgets points leader, has five wins at Ventura in his career and he leads the championship standings. But Jerome Rodela, who sits second in the points, has two wins at Ventura and won the division's most recent race at Shasta Raceway Park.

The three USAC divisions heading for Ventura this weekend spend the season racing on some dirt tracks (like Ventura) and some paved. It's a road show with contestants from all over the western United States. Throw a few local chargers into the mix and you have some serious racing.

Paul Revere understood about out-of-towners mixing with the locals.

And speaking of locals, Kevin Kierce won the most recent Sprint Car race at Ventura, his second of the season at the track. The defending track champ, Kierce leads the pack in the chase for the 2009 title.

Willey Miller leads Ventura's Senior Sprint class, but Bruce Douglas and Rob Kershaw are close behind.

If Revere were in town this week, he'd be telling us all, "It's the Roar by the Shore, folks, and you're all invited."
