FAAS ON TOP AS WESTERN MIDGETS IDLE UNTIL JUNE 14; JOSETT GRABS FIRST MIDGET WIN AT VENTURA

Nic Faas of Huntington Beach, Calif., winner of last year's USAC California Dirt Ford Focus title, leads the 2008 USAC Western Midget Series standings going into a June 14 race at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. That race is USAC's 700th in the series which dates back to 1982.

Faas finished eighth in Saturday night's 30-lap race at Ventura, won by Robby Josett.

Josett, last year's California Ford Focus "Rookie of the Year," scored his initial USAC Western Midget feature win at Ventura, leading all 30 laps in his R & L & Sons Construction/JHC Josett Heating & Cooling Spike/Esslinger Ford. Cory Kruseman finished second ahead of Josh Ford, Henry Clarke and Ernie Bartley III.

Faas leads 2007 series runner-up Scott Pierovich by 15 points in the latest standings, with Josett third. Pierovich escaped injury in a flip at Ventura.
