LEWIS LEADS WESTERN MIDGETS TO STOCKTON 99'S "GERHARDT OPEN WHEEL CLASSIC"

Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind. will continue his quest to become only the second driver to own championships in both USAC's Western Sprint and Midget series when the Midgets compete in Saturday night's 100-lap "Gerhardt Open Wheel Classic" at Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway.

Lewis won the Western Sprint title in 2003 and leads Tyler Brown in the 2006 Midget series by 34 points following "top-10" finishes in this year's three races. Only Rick Hendrix owns both USAC Western titles (2002 Sprints and 1998 Midgets).

Lewis won last year's Stockton 100-lapper, while Nick Rescino Jr. won last September's USAC Sprint race at Stockton. The USAC/CASA Sprint cars share this Saturday's program with the USAC/BCRA Midgets.

Jerome Rodela of El Monte, Calif. is USAC's defending Western Midget Champion, while John Sarale of Stockton is the defending BCRA titlist.
