PIEROVICH ATOP WESTERN MIDGET POINTS; SERIES RESUMES MAY 17 AT VENTURA RACEWAY; WEASE REPEATS AS "GERHARDT CLASSIC" CHAMPION

Scott Pierovich of Alamo, Calif., last year's runnerup for the USAC Western Midget title, finds himself atop the 2008 standings after his third-place finish in Saturday night's "Gerhardt Classic" at Madera (Calif.) Speedway. Pierovich is five points ahead of Nic Faas in the new points.

Billy Wease of Noblesville, Ind. repeated as the winner of the "Gerhardt Classic" Saturday, winning the 100-lap race in the Western Speed Racing K & N Filters/Toyota TRD Gerhardt/Toyota. Wease passed teammate Paul Zimmerly on lap 47 and led the rest of the way for the win.

Dallen McKenney was second ahead of fast qualifier Pierovich, Michael Faccinto and Daniel Bedford. Faccinto led the first 44 laps and Zimmerly led two before Wease took over.
