MIDGETS JOIN SPRINTS FOR SATURDAY'S ALTAMONT "DOUBLEHEADER;" FAAS EXTENDS LEAD WITH BAKERSFIELD VICTORY

The USAC Western Midgets join the Western Sprint Cars for a USAC "doubleheader" this Saturday at Altamont Raceway Park in Tracy, Calif. It'll mark the 212th time USAC Midgets and Sprints have competed on the same program but only one driver has been able to pull off a "sweep" in the past two years.

Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. turned the trick September 8 last year at Tracy. It was only the 26th such "sweep" ever recorded.

Nic Faas of Huntington Beach, Calif. continued his drive to the 2008 USAC Western Midget Championship Saturday night, leading all 30 laps of the race at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway in his Western Speed Racing K & N Filters/Toyota TRD Gerhardt/Toyota. Fast qualifier Brad Kuhn finished second ahead of points runner-up Scott Pierovich, Robby Josett and Shannon McQueen.

Four different drivers have won at Tracy this year. They have been Brad Kuhn, Shane Golobic, C.J. Sarna and Bobby Grewohl. Faas has finished second and third in his last two Altamont appearances.
