INDIANA SPRINT WEEK DEBUTS AT LAWRENCEBURG, GAS CITY & KOKOMO; HINES WINS "VOGLER CLASSIC," EAST #1 AT TOLEDO

The 22nd edition of "Indiana Sprint Week" kicks off Friday night at Lawrenceburg Speedway, with seven races scheduled in nine days. Races this week are also scheduled Saturday at Gas City I-69 Speedway and Sunday at Kokomo Speedway.

Levi Jones is the defending champion of "Indiana Sprint Week" and also leads the 2009 USAC National Sprint Car standings, 14 points ahead of Dave Darland following a pair of pavement races in Indiana and Ohio.

"Indiana Sprint Week" will conclude with races at the Terre Haute Action Track (July 15), Kamp Motor Speedway in Boswell (July 16), Bloomington Speedway (July 17) and Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt (July 18).

Darland owns 11 "Indiana Sprint Week" victories and needs one more to tie Cory Kruseman for the all-time lead since the series began in 1988. Darland won three ISW titles, the latest in 2007. A fourth title would tie him with Kevin Thomas for the most titles.

Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. captured Thursday night's 40-lap "Rich Vogler Classic" as USAC returned to "Thursday Night Thunder" at the Winchester (Ind.) Speedway. Hines was the fastest qualifier for the USAC National Sprint race and trailed Cole Whitt until the 37th lap when he made the winning pass in turn three. Hines then led the final four laps in his Tony Stewart Racing Chevy/Bass Pro Shops Beast/Kistler Chevy to beat Whitt, Bobby East, Darren Hagen and Jacob Wilson. Shane Hmiel led the first two laps and Whitt, trying to become the fourth different Keith Kunz team driver to win the race in the last four years, led the next 34.

Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind. darted past Jacob Wilson entering turn one on the 45th lap and went on to win Friday night's Hemelgarn Racing Super Fitness Night USAC National Sprint race at Toledo Speedway. East wheeled the Club Sport/Ford Racing Beast/Ford to the win over Wilson, Hagen, Jerry Coons Jr. and Hmiel.
