Todd Ellison of West Jordan, Utah scored his first victory in the USAC Western Sprint Car Series Saturday night, winning the 30-lap feature at Silver State Raceway in Carson City, Nev. driving the Custom Industries/Temple's Machine/Central Body Shop Special. Ellison led the final eight laps of the race after taking the lead when Shauna Hogg retired from the race with a broken drive line. Hogg would have become USAC's first female Sprint car feature winner, but finished 19th after leading the first 22 laps on the 1/4-mile paved oval. Bobby McMahan, Ken Hamilton, Tom Stansberry and Mike McCreary rounded out the "top-five" at the checkered flag. Western Sprint Car Series point leader Bud Kaeding finished seventh but retains a 107-point lead over Rick Hendrix, who was sixth in the Carson City 30-lapper. The series now prepares for a September 11 race at Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway Park.
