KRUSEMAN, LAMBERT TAKE MCI WORLDCOM VENTURA VICTORIES WESTERN SPRINT CARS INVADE MADERA SATURDAY

Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif., and Steve Lambert of Port Hueneme, Calif. captured MCI WorldCom USAC Western feature victories Saturday night at the Ventura (Calif.) Speedway. The MCI WorldCom Western Midget Cars and TQ Midget Cars are idle this weekend but return to action April 17 at the Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway.

The USAC Western Sprint Car Series resumes action this Saturday night at the Madera (Calif.) Speedway. A 30-lap feature is scheduled on the 1/3-mile paved oval. Bud Kaeding, winner of the series debut at Irwindale, Calif. March 27, is the early 1999 point leader going into Saturday night's program, four points ahead of defending series champion Jeff Gardner.

The 30-lap Ventura triumph was amazingly Kruseman's first in MCI WorldCom USAC Western Midget Car competition. The 11-time career TQ feature winner took the lead on the 23rd lap and led the rest of the way in the Andy Bondio Special to beat Clay Klepper, Alex Harris, Steve Paden and Mike English to the checkered flag. Bryan Stanfill, the night's fastest qualifier and 1998 Western Midget Car runner-up, lost a wheel while leading, allowing Kruseman to assume the lead. Stanfill was one of four race leaders. Klepper , who also led the 30-lapper, emerged as the new Western Midget Car point leader as a result of his finish.

Lambert, in his Design Works Honda, led the last 13 laps of the 20-lap MCI WorldCom TQ Midget Car main event to beat lady driver Randi Pankratz, Ron Ahrendt, Kevin Wybenga and Josh Lakatos. Gene Godepski led the first two laps and Pankratz led the next five before yielding to Lambert.
