VENTURA RACEWAY: SLEEPY TRIPP FALL CLASSIC GRAND MARSHALL

VENTURA, Calif. -- Ventura Raceway announced today that Ron 'Sleepy' Tripp will be the Grand Marshall of the Nov. 21 ARP presents The JW Mitchell Fall Classic for USAC Midgets.

Tripp is USAC's winningest midget racer at Ventura with a career destined to land him in several racing halls of fame. The total purse for the ARP presents The JW Mitchell Fall Classic for USAC Midgets is still building but the winner's share will be in excess of $5,000. The total purse is expected to be the largest in Ventura Raceway history.

"There are very few tracks as competitive as Ventura," Tripp said. "It's always been that way. That's the thing about (Raceway promoter) Jim Naylor, there is no promoter that puts as much work into it."

The Nov. 21 race is expected to attract the top midget racers in the United States. It is part of USAC's national midget series schedule and falls just a few days away from the annual Turkey Night Grand Prix, held in Southern California.

The starting field of the JW Mitchell Fall Classic for USAC Midgets will have 22 cars, but the event is expected to draw twice that many entrants or more.

"I'm looking forward to getting up there to see what Jim has going on," Tripp said. "It was one of my favorite tracks--I had a pretty good pattern up there."

Midgets, particularly USAC midgets, have been a staple at Ventura Raceway for most of the venue's 31-year existence. According to USAC, the track has hosted the most USAC races since the track opened operations in 1986.

The Fall Classic will include the USAC Ford Focus Midget Dirt National tour and the USAC Junior Focus Midgets. The three races will bring to 335 the number of USAC events the Raceway has hosted.

Tripp lives in Costa Mesa with his family.
