Tony Stewart Racing's Jones, Stenhouse, Jr., Prepare to Return to Wisconsin for Second Weekend of USAC Midget Series Action
INDIANAPOLIS (September 5, 2007) -- Tony Stewart Racing's (TSR) USAC driving duo of Levi Jones and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., are set to return to Wisconsin for the third straight week of USAC National Midget Car Series racing action this Friday, as they'll take part in the Inaugural Stan Fox Memorial at the Plymouth (Wis.) Dirt Track. Jones and Stenhouse will make their first appearance at the 1/3-mile dirt facility in Friday's co-sanctioned USAC/Badger Midget Auto Racing Association (BMARA) event, which was postponed on August 24 due to inclement weather.
Jones currently leads the USAC National Sprint Car standings with 1,206 points and is ranked seventh in the USAC Midget championship with 718 points. He enters this Friday's race with the strength of two consecutive top-five finishes in USAC and BMARA behind him.
Stenhouse will be looking to gain ground in the USAC Midget championship this weekend. The 19-year-old is only 208 points behind leader Jerry Coons, Jr., and is looking for his first national title. Stenhouse has won a total of four Midget races this year -- two USAC/POWRi co-sanctioned events and two USAC Midget events. He is ranked fourth in the standings with 867 points.
Injured TSR driver Tracy Hines continues therapy following a second surgery on August 13 to break up scar tissue on his right knee. He attends daily therapy at St. Vincent Sport Medicine and continues to improve.
Friday's USAC Midget event at the 1/3-mile Plymouth Dirt Track will feature a 30-lap race. Gates will open at 4 p.m. CDT with hot laps scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The official Web site of the Plymouth Dirt Track is www.plymouthdtr.com.
Quotes from Levi Jones, driver of the No. 20 TSR/Chevrolet/Spike -- USAC National Midget Series
You're heading into Friday's event with the strength of two recent top-five finishes in midget racing competition. Are you looking forward to getting back in the midget?
"Any time you can put together a string of strong finishes, your confidence goes up. We've really done pretty well in the midget this season. It's just kind of been a quiet learning experience. Running second in the Belleville Midget Nationals was huge for our team. I believe that was a great accomplishment for our midget program. Having run well against some of the best midget drivers in the country last weekend in Wisconsin was also a great confidence builder. When you compete in that part of the country, you're facing off against some tough competitors. Midget racing is very strong in Wisconsin and there are a lot of people that can win on any given night. Having found some things in the past two weekends is going to help us out as we get ready for Friday's event and hopefully we can continue to gain ground. It would be pretty cool to get my first series win at Plymouth on Friday and hopefully we'll be able to do so for Chevrolet and Bass Pro Shops."
Quote from Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., driver of the No. 21 TSR/Chevrolet/Spike -- USAC National Midget Series
This weekend will be your first look at the Plymouth Dirt Track. Are you looking forward to finally getting to race at the facility?
"We're hoping that it doesn't rain. We really want to race at Plymouth on Friday night. Having competed in Wisconsin for the past two weekends, we're looking forward to heading back up there on Friday. It would be great to get a win, especially after last weekend's races didn't end they way we'd like them to. To be running near the front on both nights and end up in accidents isn't the way we'd like to finish up the Wisconsin run. I'm also glad we're going to be racing this weekend, as had this race not been rescheduled we would have had the weekend off. With the Chevy weekend at Eldora coming up in just a few weeks, it's good that we're going to have a few chances to race before we head there on September 22. I'd also like to win one of these midget races in Wisconsin before we move on. We've been so close in the past few weeks and I'd love to put Chevrolet and Bass Pro Shops back in victory lane on Friday."
