Tony Stewart Racing On Track To Become First Team To Sweep Three USAC National Racing Series Championships In A Single Season
INDIANAPOLIS (July 16, 2008) -- At the midway point of the 2008 racing season, Tony Stewart Racing's (TSR) Levi Jones and Tracy Hines are doing their best to rewrite the USAC Racing history books. They sit atop the championship standings in all three USAC National Racing Series divisions. And while there are several months left to settle each series title, TSR could become the first team ever to win the USAC Sprint, Midget and Silver Crown Series championships in a single season.
Two-time USAC National Sprint Car Series champion Jones currently leads the way in this year's series title hunt with 761 points. Having earned the series' top honor in both 2005 and 2007, Jones is a constant threat on both the dirt and the pavement. He and the No. 20 Chevrolet team have earned two series victories in 2008 and will look to add to that total this week as Chevy Powers Indiana Sprint Week continues Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Chasing his first-ever USAC National Midget Car Series title this season, Hines currently leads the championship standings with 468 points. While still chasing his first USAC Midget Series victory of the year behind the wheel of the No. 21 Chevrolet entry, Hines has earned two USAC Sprint Series victories. The 2000 USAC Silver Crown Series champion is also en route to winning his second series title this year, as he tops the championship standings with 102 markers.
This week, Jones and Hines will resume action in the final three events of the 21st Chevy Powers Indiana Sprint Week Series. The TSR team will kick off the week at Kamp Motor Speedway in Boswell, Ind., Thursday. On Friday, the USAC Sprint Series moves on to Bloomington (Ind.) Speedway before wrapping up the weekend at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., on Saturday night. Jones is currently ranked second in the Indiana Sprint Week standings, only 26 points behind leader Dave Darland.
Race fans will also have an opportunity to own a piece of history this week as Jones will be sporting a special helmet paint scheme created by Bullseye Visual to benefit the Tony Stewart Foundation (TSF). This unique Simpson helmet will be auctioned off, and TSF will earmark the funds for donations to charity organizations within the World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Series and USAC Racing groups.
Bids will be accepted via e-mail at TSRHelmets@yahoo.com, or in person at the USAC Racing Merchandise trailer Thursday through Saturday.
When submitting bids online, please include the following information: Helmet name (Levi Jones), bid amount, bidder name, phone number, alternate phone number and e-mail address.
The silent auction opened Thursday, July 10. Final bids must be received by Sunday at 11:30 p.m. EDT.
