Kody Swanson Has His First USAC National Midget Win
In just his third race since signing a contract to drive full time for the prestigious Nine Racing in their USAC National Midget Kingsburg California's Kody Swanson scored a convincing victory. Starting on the outside of the first row in last Saturday night's race Kody took the lead on the first lap and never looked back. He lead every lap at the Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, North Carolina in his #19 Nine Racing/Toyota.
Kody began the evening at the 4/10 mile track by qualifying fifth fastest in a field of 28 entrants. The first six qualifiers were inverted for the main event which put Kody on the outside pole position. Kody made quick work of the pole sitter Dakoda Armstrong and was in the lead on the first lap. He held on to the first spot until the checker flag in the 40 lap race.
The USAC Mopar National Midget Car standings show Tracy Hines of New Castle, IN driving for Tony Stewart Racing and California native Cole Whitt driving for Keith Kunz Mortorsports deadlocked in a tie for first place after three races. Kody's wire to wire win at Southern National Raceway Park puts him sixth in the standings 54 points behind the leaders. The next race for the series will be on May 16 at West Salem, Wisconsin where they will be running at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.
Kody drives for Steve Lewis at Nine Racing which has won 10 USAC National Midget Series Championships. Some past drivers who have driven for Nine Racing are NASCAR drivers Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, JJ Yeley, Jason Leffler, Kenny Irwin Jr. and Mike Bliss. "I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with a team like Nine Racing..." said Kody. It looks like Nine Racing will get an opportunity to win even more races with the talented young driver they have put behind the wheel.
