Levi Jones of Olney, Ill. emerged as the champion of USAC's Valvoline "Indiana Sprint Week" with a narrow two-point margin over Dickie Gaines in the final standings. The series encompassed seven events during the past two weeks and Levi scored a pair of thirds, three fourths and a 12th in his six starts. Rain forced cancellation of Wednesday night's feature race at the Gas City I-69 Speedway.

Jon Stanbrough of Jamestown, Ind. repeated as the winner of the "Robbie Stanley Classic" Thursday night at Lawrenceburg Speedway, leading all 30 laps in the Dynamics, Inc. Kroger-Tide/Pringles-Bounty F5/Gaerte. Gaines finished second ahead of Jones, Cory Kruseman and Casey Shuman.

Kevin Briscoe edged Gaines for victory at the Bloomington Speedway Friday night, leading the final 26 laps after passing Gaines on lap five. Trailing Briscoe's Dutch Housing/Briscoe Homes Stealth/Tate were Gaines, Bud Kaeding, Matt Westfall and Kevin Huntley. Stanbrough flipped during the Bloomington feature.

J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. wheeled the Stanton Racing Deford Chrysler F5/Moparto victory in Saturday night's 30-lap "Jan Opperman Classic" finale at the Terre Haute Action Track. He led all 30 laps to beat Stanbrough, Kruseman, Jones and Dave Darland. Gaines finished 10th, when a ninth would have given him a one-point cushion over Jones in the final standings. Josh Wise, who was among drivers challenging for the Valvoline "Indiana Sprint Week" title entering the finale, flipped during practice but was not hurt.

The Valvoline National Sprint Car Series now prepares for its biggest single race of the season -- the "Mopar Thunder at Eldora," August 7 at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Total prize money of $166,600 is posted and the winner's share is $50,000!
